Firestone amusement park on Thursday .

The COLUMBIANA-BirdFish Brewery is holding a celebration to mark the founding of the official Harvey S. Firestone Recreational Park Disc Golf Course starting at 12.30 p.m. today.

RAT Creative and Lamppost Farm have been working closely with BirdFish for almost two and a half years to complete the 9-hole course including a practice hole near the town pool at Harvey S. Firestone Recreational Park.

Columbiana Park Board President Ron Detwiler is grateful for the perseverance and dedication of Birdfish, RAT Creative, and Lamppost Farm.

“For us it is outstanding that a joint venture is entering the park and supporting the park in many ways.” said Detwiler.

Park Grand Opening IPA Invitation Discs are available for $ 17 and can be paired with a Birdfish towel and signature Park IPA beer for $ 23.

A card designed by Dan and Renee McRoberts of RAT Creative will be available from 12.30pm on Saturday.

Dan McRoberts encourages residents and surrounding communities to enjoy the disc golf course.

“It’s a free activity. It’s free, outdoors, and encourages exercise. “ he said.

Park board member Nancy Tirpak said the companies show the qualities that Columbiana is best known for.

“We are very hospitable; We are a fun place “, said Tirpak.

Josh Dunn, co-founder of Birdfish, stated that disc golf isn’t complicated.

“Your goal is to get it into the basket with as few strokes as possible, just like with normal golf.” said Dunn.

Disc golfers have three strokes to get the disc into the basket from a numbered tee near the basket. Once the disc has been thrown, it continues from the point where the disc lands.

“It’s fun to do with family or friends. It’s something you can do together outside. It costs nothing”, Joe Montgomery Lamppost Farm board member said.

Joe is representing his brother Steve Montgomery who contributed to the process and thinks it’s great to have a disc golf course in town.

Detwiler emphasized the commitment of Birdfish, RAT Creative and Lamppost Farm, which is reflected in their efforts to complete the disc golf course. All three companies worked with the Park Board of Directors and the Restoration and Beautification Committee of Columbiana.

“That’s the advantage of a small community like Columbiana. We’re all in the same boat,” said Detwiler.

Future Park IPA purchases will continue to fund the efforts of the Columbiana Park Board and the Columbiana Restoration and Beautification Committee. Birdfish encourages the community to continue purchasing Park IPA to help develop the Firestone Dog Park.
