Community Services Director Scott Bruner announced at the community council meeting on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 that a disc golf course is planned for the empty space at Community Center Park in the Chino Valley, east of Field 5. The dog park next door is also being upgraded with a Ramada for the shade.
“It’s used as a walkway, and it can and still will be, but we’re going to use the space a little more,” says Scott Bruner. “We’re going to take a 9-target course there.”

According to the Professional Disc Gold Association, “Disc golf is played much like golf. Instead of the ball and clubs, however, the players use a flying disc or Frisbee®. Disc golf shares the same joys and frustrations as golf, whether it is about sinking a long putt or hitting a tree halfway down the fairway. There are a few differences, however: disc golf can often be played for free in public parks, although pay-to-play courses are on the rise; You probably don’t need to rent a cart, but converted golf course layouts are on the rise too; and your “tee time” usually occurs during tournament competition, not casual play. “
How to play disc golf
A golf disc is thrown from a tee to a target, the “hole”. The hole can be one of several disc golf destinations; the most common is a raised metal basket. When a player steps down the fairway, he or she must take each successive throw from where the previous throw landed. The trees, bushes and changes in the terrain in and around the fairways represent challenging obstacles for the golfer. Finally, the “putt” lands in the basket and the hole is ready.
The new disc golf course will be suitable for the numerous recreational opportunities in the Chino Valley.
