Everyone knows that Mario Golf: Super Rush is not your average golf game. Usually things like speed, stamina, and special movements aren’t something you see in a PGA Tour game. And this is where choosing a character that works for you and offers some of the best perks with their overall stats can keep you from bending your racket in half to get off balance.
Here is a ranking of the best-playing characters in the latest Mario Golf game based on overall stats, special shots, dash moves, and some interesting mechanics you might not have expected that can give you an edge:
Mario Golf: Super Rush Tier List
- Bowser Jr.
- Donkey kong
- Chargin Chuck
- King Bob-omb
All of these characters are ranked accordingly, depending on the strong advantages or disadvantages on the greens. But what distinguishes it or does it fall behind? Let’s break it down character by character to understand how each one works.
Rosalina (S level)
The constantly watching mother of the stars rounds off this list not only with some impressive specials, but also with a mechanic that so far only has two characters in the game: floating. Not only is it a cool way to get around: Rosalina can even float over terrain that would normally hamper golfers on foot, even over bunkers! Her sprint move is decent, has a bit of start time, but covers a good distance. And their special shot turns balls into star bits after impact, giving them an awkward bounce and extreme curve when putting.
Mario (S level)
It’s not for nothing that Mario is the superstar of the franchise, he’s always the balanced character in the sports games. In this game, however, its speed is 9, which is almost the highest speed in the game. His special shot is God-Beast, which not only gives an explosive explosion on impact, but also gives him a moment of speed and invincibility with a superstar. His sprint is high-mid tier, acrobatic to overcome obstacles and get out of it, but he only has an average distance. And for a fairly balanced guy, his driving distance will be almost as long as that of the other heavy hitters.
Yoshi (S level)
Everyone’s favorite green dinosaur happens to be the fastest character in the game, with a speed of a full 10. What makes him the front runner despite his smaller driving range is his special punch. In addition to the distance carried by the rolling egg, the egg is sent away with an additional flutter at the end from under its feet and can actually hit other players. His special shot is basically that of Rosalina in terms of status effects, only the bullets become Yoshi eggs.
The skinny mean green brother takes a break for a change, although he still doesn’t agree with his older brother in some areas. It has the same speed and a little more control. But what makes Luigi round that tier down is his ice effects that cause his specials. Both his shot and special shot leave patches of ice on which players and balls slide around, the shot leaves icy marks (although it has a bit of a start and end delay), and the shot breaks up a huge layer of ice.
Bowser Jr. (A Grade)
Good ol ‘BJ is proud of his big bad papa for being a higher class speed guy with some interesting moves. His shot travels a long distance and his special shot hides the player’s balls and flagpole marker in smoke after an impact. We also love to see him spinning around on his swings.
Boo (A level)
This ghostie might have a shorter swing, but physical strength doesn’t really turn into an ethereal boo, does it? Boo is the other character after Rosalina who can hover over the terrain and cannot be slowed down. His Dash has no start and travels a great distance, while his Special has the same Rosalina / Yoshi effect of “haunting” balls that bounce and bend as you put.
Wario (A level)
Wario is one of the best dressers in the golf club and barely manages other strength types as he has a special that actually creates a unique status effect of shock. Affected players will not be able to hit the danger area above or they will be electrocuted and forced to shoot again. It also brings in a huge thunder cloud covering part of the map, blocking the view of your shooting distance. In addition, its dash special moves through the air, hovering over players and obstacles. The only downside is that you can’t ram other golfers with it.
Daisies (A grade)
The tomboy flower princess doesn’t just barely make it onto the A-list. Your speed, stamina, and control are great for the route. And while her special shot doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles plowing through players and balls on a low trajectory, her shot is a bit above average as she doesn’t have a start-up and does a nice jump to scale over things.
Although the king has the most extravagant looks, his skills are really just extravagantly average. Although he has the second highest driving range in the game, his specials are nothing special for his minions. A slightly above-average jump with a pause to start and a completely normal special shot that only explodes on impact are all our buffs that Koopa brings to this game.
Donkey Kong (B-Level)
The King of Swing isn’t much better. In fact, it is even a bit worse, as it shares identical values with Bowser, but with a three-meter less distance. And because his specials are pretty much the same too, it’s pretty obvious he’s further down the list.
Chargin chuck (level B)
What if you get a soccer player to try golf? Pretty much what you’d expect. An average Joe with a reasonably decent performance, which is below the other Heavys due to the shorter driving distance and also a little less endurance. His shot is pretty much the same as Bowser and DK, but his special shot is at least different as it’s pretty much the same plow shot as Daisys.
Our little mushroom is the weakest character in the game in terms of distance and makes up for it with speed and excellent shot control. His sprint is also extraordinary, he is very agile, fast and he jumps over obstacles; probably the fastest stroke in the game. His Impact Blast special shot is just average.
King Bob-omb (B-Grade)
A vintage car from the old days, this ancient king can hardly stop himself from being thrown from the B Tier Battlefield, despite being the absolute slowest character. It has the absolute highest driving range and some pretty explosive specials. His sprint is above average, no start, long distance, and leaves bob ombs that explode in a second or two. Simply one of the most offensive strokes in the game. His special shot is also not a dud, he not only blasts a certain area, but sends a field of bob ombs around it, which can be triggered if other players or their balls land in their area.
No wonder Peach has replaced her almost entirely, as the New Donk City mayor just squeezes a little over her while playing golf. She only has two servings more stamina than she and only an extra meter apart. What keeps her from being the lowest tier, however, is that her special shot gives her a special temporary shot like Marios does. Bonus points for singing “Jump Up, Super Star!” Included.
Waluigi (C level)
Although he is S-tier in many of our hearts and definitely when it comes to choosing stylish outfits, Waluigi cannot really go into anything higher. His dash move has a bit of start-up and cool-down, his driving range is average, and his special shot is basically a different plow-type.
Sorry princess. You get the lowest of the wedges here. While speed and control are exceptional, nothing else stands out. Her Dash has a bit of a start-up, and her specialty shot is the same as Waluigi’s. At the very least, she’s a great beginner character because her control is so high and her distance so short.
Regardless of the character you need to enjoy the game!
Don’t forget that the most important part of choosing the character that works best is choosing the one who suits you best. You can choose the best character and still not be that good at the game itself. Or you can just pick any character you find as your favorite, your skills, your personality or whatever. Just make the choice that you are happiest with!
