A suicidal teenager climbed a tower on the Chelsea Piers golf driving range Sunday night – triggering a rescue operation that lasted more than five hours, police said.
Police were notified around 5:30 p.m. that a 19-year-old man at the top of the tower was supporting the 160-foot net on the fairway and threatening to jump, authorities said.

At 9:45 p.m., the NYPD Emergency Services Unit climbed the tower, hooked the teenager, and lowered him to the ground.
He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital at 10:50 p.m.
No crime was suspected immediately and the teen was not charged until Monday morning.

A 160-foot-high net protects the golf club’s artificial turf fairway, which protrudes 200 meters above the water and is about 40 meters wide, according to the Morning Read golf outlet.
