The North Texas men’s golf team will open the season on their home course by participating in the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational after finishing last season with a high score by making it into the match-play final of the Conference USA championship has moved in and the freshman conference champion Vicente. has seen Marzilio move up as an individual to an NCAA regional.

THE EVENT: Maridoe Golf Club will play at 7,600 yards and will be a par 72 course for the tournament. The three-day event begins Monday and ends Wednesday, with start times starting at 8:30 a.m. on all three days.

THE FIELD: Fifteen teams will participate in the tournament (rankings are from the latest GolfStat poll), including No. 5 Arizona State, No. 34 Baylor, Florida Gulf Coast, Howard, No. 24 Liberty, North Texas, No. 49 Ohio State, No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 18 SMU, Southern California, No. 37 TCU, No. 11 Texas, No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 12 Texas Tech, and No. 9 Wake Forest.

REPRESENTATION UNDER: For the mean green, Lenny Bergsson, Diego Prone, Sean Wilcox, Vicente Marzili and Tucker Allen, a transfer from Oklahoma that will make its North Texas debut.

TUBE TIME: The tournament will be televised nationwide on all three days, with coverage on the Golf Channel from 3pm to 6pm

LAST TIME OUT: North Texas made it to the match play final of the Conference USA Championship after a dramatic victory in the semifinals.

INTERNATIONAL TASTE: The Mean Green has six international players this year. Lenny Bergsson (Iceland), Viktor Forslund (Sweden), Nikhil Gopal (South Africa), Zak Karkaletsos (Spain), Diego Prone (Argentina) and Vicente Marzilio (Argentina) round off the national team.

ROUTE SAYS: “After a competitive qualifier, I believe we are ready to take part in the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational. We have four returnees this week with Tucker Allen. It will be imperative that the team stick to the schedule and play golf themselves.”

NEXT: North Texas will travel to Albuquerque to compete at The Tucker from September 24-25.
