CHERRY HILL, NJ – Woodcrest Country Club on Evesham Road in Cherry Hill is under new ownership. South Jersey-based owner Randy Lahn and his wife Patricia have reached an agreement with the First Montgomery Group to purchase Woodcrest Country Club.
Lahn also owns the Funplex Amusement Centers in New Jersey and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Brian Williams, CEO of Funplex Amusement Centers, is also a member of the new management team. The group of owners is rounded off by Patrick Lucas, the club’s current Director of Operations.
Lucas will remain with the club as co-owner and operator of the course. With years of experience in the golf management business, Lucas served as First Assistant Superintendent at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York, before becoming Superintendent at Woodcrest in 1994 at the age of 24.
Lahn’s family has been associated with the country club since the 1960s when the parents were both members. Lahn’s father Herb was a former club president. Lahn’s son Alex is currently a member.
“The First Montgomery Group has been a wonderful steward of the club and I look forward to taking Woodcrest to the next level and creating a first-class family experience unparalleled in the region,” said Lahn. “Woodcrest has played an important role in our family for generations and I am excited to make it a formal part of our legacy.”
The Woodcrest Country Club was founded in 1929 and is located on 178 acres of land. Woodcrest offers players impeccable conditions, including well-manicured fairways, smooth greens and deep bunkers.
With magnificent views and beautiful landscaping, Woodcrest is a testament to the talent and expertise of golf course architect William S. Flynn.
It is currently a private club with an 18-hole championship course; “Bar 1929”, a restaurant that serves members and the public with lunch, dinner, Sunday brunch, and live music with a panoramic view of the 18th hole; a pool, ballrooms and private meeting rooms. Woodcrest Country Club is the ideal location for golf, socializing, and private events.
Lahn said he will maintain the club’s status as a private club while creating an exclusive retreat for the whole family. These include a fitness center, spa, pickle ball, kids’ club, arcade room, and indoor / outdoor pool.
The upgrades will begin early next year with course improvements on three of the club’s 18 holes, Lahn said.
Lahn began his career in the leisure industry in 1991 with just one mini golf course and a driving range. Over time, he became more and more passionate about providing family entertainment for everyone.
The Funplex Amusement Centers is a full-fledged amusement park with indoor and outdoor rides and attractions, water parks, go-karts, indoor and outdoor restaurants, events, and more.
It has two locations in New Jersey and one that recently opened in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The same family-friendly approach with which he would like to make the Funplex such an overwhelming success is what Lahn wants to use at the Woodcrest Country Club.
Just minutes from Center City, Lahn wants to create a wider membership that members outside of the Cherry Hill area can also enjoy.
Woodcrest Country Club is located at 300 East Evesham Road in Cherry Hill. For more information about the club, events, restaurants, membership, and more, please visit www.woodcrestcountryclub.com.
