Team Chan walked away as the winner of the Prince Rupert Mens’ Day Year End Scramble Golf Tournament on October 6th.
During an unusually sunny afternoon on the “rich and pure” greens, the tournament winners played 15 other teams of four battling for the title, said Iain Cullen, president of Prince Rupert Golf Club.
First place winners each received a $ 125 pro shop gift card, second place team members received $ 100 gift cards each, third place received a dozen golf balls per person, and fourth place winners received a club towel for every golfer, Iain Cullen told The North View.
Participants also competed for other bonus prizes, including the longest drive, the longest putt closest to the pin, and 11 prizes of $ 11 each in the “two-pot” for players who hit two strokes at three par holes scored.
The 18-hole tournament was played twice on the first nine greens due to flood damage last month that destroyed one of the golf course’s bridges.
On arrival, the participants were provided with soup and sandwiches before they hit the greens, where they could tee off shortly before 1 p.m. The golfers were then invited to linger in the club lounge after the tournament to have food and drinks.
While this may be the last tournament of the season, the golf course will remain open year round as long as the weather permits, Cullen said.
