BRECKENRIDGE, Colorado (KDVR) – Many Colorado mountain towns are delighted with a large amount of snow that fell overnight in the highlands.

A blessing for the Gold Run Nordic Center in Breckenridge.

The urban recreation area was supposed to open last week, but couldn’t because there was simply not enough snow.

The center is a 30,000-acre park where people can go cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and even ride fat bikes.

Because of the heavy snow that fell on Thursday night, the Nordic Center opens on Saturday.

Patrick Clary, director of operations at the Gold Run Nordic Center, said he hit golf balls just a few days ago as the area doubles as a golf course in the warmer months. Now he and the people who run the store are excited and ready to welcome the public.

“This is the first step. We definitely need some snow cover, ”said Clary. “We’re really lucky enough to get a really good stop with a couple of days with good significant inches and then that’s going to create a great base for us and then we have to move on.”
