GOUROCK Golf Club recently hosted their Seniors’ Open competition with a very healthy attendance of 127 players, many of whom were visitors from neighboring clubs.
Since the course was in great condition and the weather was fair, the score was inevitably low and competitive.
Largs GC’s Jim Callaghan, who won the Gourock Golf Club Championship in 2007, won the scratch award with a very constant over par 74 consisting of 13 pars, three bogies and two birdies.
The overall winner of the Seniors’ Open trophy was Gourock member Alan McBride, who scored a great two under par gross 71 minus nine, which was an excellent net 62 and a clear four strokes distance from his closest challengers.
Alan started his round with a 30-foot putt on the first green for a birdie 4 and followed up with additional birdies on holes 7, 10 and 15.
He showed a very high degree of consistency throughout the round, with only two strokes on the second and third holes falling to par. A very impressive round of golf.
Gourock Golf Club thanks Robscot Builders again for sponsoring this tournament.
