The LPGA Cognizant Founders Cup yesterday announced that RWJBarnabas Health has been named the Official Healthcare Provider of the 2022 tournament, which is being held from May 11-15 at historic Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton. As part of the partnership, RWJBarnabas Health is responsible for all on-site Emergency Medical Services (EMS) throughout tournament week, and special attention is being given to melanoma awareness, with signage promoting preventive measures placed across the tournament venue.

Led by local anchor institutions, Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center and Clara Maass Medical Center, 2022 marks the second straight year that RWJBarnabas Health will serve as the Official Healthcare Provider of the Cognizant Founders Cup, a prestigious event that showcases the world’s best professional players and helps drive the LPGA’s mission to engage, empower, and support girls and women. This year’s spring tournament dates serve as ideal timing to help promote melanoma awareness, and the importance of preventive measures.

“RWJBarnabas is the premier healthcare system in New Jersey and their support of this event greatly helps our mission to continue engaging, empowering and supporting girls and women through this great sport,” said Tracy Hupko, sales & marketing manager, Cognizant Founders Cup.

“As tens of thousands of attendees, many from the surrounding communities, come out to enjoy the best professional golfers in the world this week at Upper Montclair CC, we see a tremendous opportunity to educate them on melanoma awareness, while sharing preventive measures to stay safe from the sun,” said Franz Smith, MD, MAcM, FACS, northern lead for the Melanoma and Soft Tissue Oncology Program and medical director of the Melanoma Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center.

Upper Montclair Country Club is one of only a few country clubs worldwide known to have hosted tournaments for all three professional golf tours, including the LPGA in 1979 & 1980, 1983 & 1984, and 2007-2009. Long considered one of NJ’s premier golf clubs, this legendary A.W. Tillinghast golf course design underwent a major renovation in the 1950s, directed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., transforming Upper Montclair Country Club into its present 27-hole Championship layout. The acclaimed venue, which has hosted hundreds of the world’s best players over many decades, will challenge an elite field of LPGA TOUR golfers.
