SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – Springfield Disc Golf Club and the Park District held a fundraiser over the weekend to raise funds for the community’s Legacy of Giving organization.
“I know they usually support at least 25 other organizations so they have a really wide reach,” said Jacky Kern, the tournament organizer. “If we donate only this small amount, we will help them with their local charities.”
“I’ve lived in Springfield all my life,” said disc golf player Aaron Gant. “This city means a lot to me, so why not give back what I can.”
It’s a win-win for the Springfield community: local charities benefit from all the proceeds and were also able to showcase one of the city’s newest clubs.
“We’re bringing more people to the beautiful parks that we have and that we love for the game,” said Kern.
“It actually brings everyone together – the Disc Gold community is very relaxed,” said Gant. “I felt accepted and I feel that we are one of the groups with the highest acceptance.”
The club was able to give back to its community and connect with others.
“Our club is very involved in community events and it’s a great way to meet people and get some exercise while having fun,” said Kern.
