Ordre du Mérite Agricole via HSH Chief Operating Officer, Mr Peter Borer, at a private ceremony at The Peninsula Hong Kong on October 6, 2021.

The Order of the Legion of Honor was founded on May 19, 1802 by Napoléon Bonaparte. It is the highest honor in France and is divided into five degrees: knight, officer, commander, grand officer and grand cross (Grand Cross).
At the ceremony, the Consul General spoke of France to Hong Kong and Macau, Mr Alexandre Giorgini, said: “This ceremony is absolutely extraordinary as I will give Mr. Borer not one but two outstanding awards. In recognition of his outstanding work with France and with French companies his unwavering commitment to the Peninsula project in Paris, and his commitment to the promotion of Of France gastronomic culture, the French government has decided to award Mr Borer the titles Chevalier dans l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur and Chevalier dans l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole.
Mr Borer said: “I am pleased and humble to receive the honor of the Chevalier dans l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur and Chevalier dans l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole. I would like to thank the French Government and the French Government Consulate from France in Hong Kong and Macau for this recognition and honor that I want to share with all my colleagues and friends. The peninsula has a long connection with France and opening of The Peninsula Paris, our first Peninsula in Europe, was one of the proudest moments in our company’s history. This award is given in the name of service and so I would like to dedicate these two medals to my late parents who taught me from an early age what a privilege and honor it is to serve others. “

Mr. Borer joined HSH in 1981 and was appointed General Manager of The Peninsula Hong Kong in 1994, where he assumed additional regional responsibility in 1999. He has been named the Group’s Chief Operating Officer April 2004. Mr. Borer is a graduate of the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, Switzerland and is now a member of the school’s International Advisory Board. In 2019 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the alumni network of the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and member of the Advisory Board of Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital.
