Tipperary and Wicklow are joining as partners of Clonmel Golf Club

Pictured above are Aidan Doyle and Billy Greene, the respective captains of Wicklow and Clonmel Golf, on the first tee in Clonmel. Aidan presented the Clonmel Club with a pennant, a coat of arms of the Wicklow Golf Club, on the occasion of the association of the clubs. Aidan is a cousin of Clonmel Golf Club PRO, Donncha Doyle.

In a week when football thought it was coming home before putting on the final three, golf certainly came home at Clonmel.
The revival of the “Open Week” was a complete success in every respect with a great mix of visitors and members !! Everyone praised the challenges on the greens, the variation of the holes on the course and the competition formats.
Quite a few visitors during the week couldn’t get over the price-performance ratio of the Clonmel Golf Club. I think word is finally getting around how good we are at Lyreanearla.
Congratulations to the captain, Billy Greene, for a wide variety of competitions and to the chairman and staff for a challenging and exquisitely presented golf course.
The Week opened with a well-sponsored and supported Wynne & Associates Open Singles, followed by the Wynne & Associates Open Four-Ball. Thanks again to JP for two great competitions.
Then we had the novel Blue / Green singles presented by John Kennedy Motors which had over 100 submissions to a midweek contest and a fabulous score, with John Perry ahead with a massive 45 points, followed by Mikey Power with another 45 points. Gross was picked up by Dermot Maher with 34 points. In fourth with the long-awaited attack by the Young Guns Michael Buckley with a tearful 43 pts. Visitor award goes to PJ. Mooney 39pt.
‘Open Week’ concluded with “The Coolmore” Champagne Scramble and it came about as follows
1st, O. Cooney (18), S. Kane (7) L. Cooney & S. Grant (16) with 106 points
2nd, K. O’Reilly (5), A. Cooney (4), D. Ryan (17) & L. Foran (17) 104 points
