Regular club competitions are good, but a Cork-based startup is looking to revolutionize the market with a brand new app – TopDog Golfer.
Mobile app developed by Aidan Power and Peter O’Brien enables golfers to host their own private competitions and enables clubs to host revenue-generating side competitions.
The app simplifies competition management by pre-deducting entry fees, displaying a live leaderboard, calculating results, and instantly distributing winnings via digital debit cards.
Use for golf clubs is free, there are no upfront or running costs and the debit cards can be restricted so that they can only be issued within the golf club – in the Pro’s Shop or in the bar and restaurant.
The company was founded in February of this year and was immediately acquired by Irish golf tech startup PowerThru Golf to accelerate its development.
“What makes TopDog unique and different from what is already on the market is that it is not only free to use, but also brings huge revenues back into the golf club and makes it much easier for golfers to manage their own competitions,” says Peter, CEO of TopDog Golfer.
TopDog also enables golfers to compete against each other anytime and anywhere on various golf courses.
The platform will connect friends around the world by allowing them to compete in competitions without worrying about who owes whom money or adding up the results.
TopDog takes inspiration from Strava and Map my Run, which revolutionized the way friends interact while training.
“We want to make golf more fun and increase the interaction between golfers,” adds Peter.
