The Legs 4 Lexi charity golf tournament was held on Saturday, October 23rd at the Coyote Willows Golf Course in Mesquite. The weather was perfect, 30 teams fought for the championship title.

This year the event had a different structure than in the past. The teams played a full 18 holes of golf instead of the customers’ 9 holes in previous years. Teams of two came from not only Mesquite but also from Las Vegas, California and southern Utah to take part.
“This is for a good cause and it’s a great price to be attending,” said Lexi’s mother Mindy Winslow, who also coordinated the event.

Lexi Winslow, 7, is the daughter of Joe and Mindy Winslow from Mesquite. She has advanced cerebral palsy and needs daily treatments and therapies for her condition. It’s a long process and requires a lot of financial resources.

To help the Winslow family, Coyote Willows has helped organize this event for three years and left it out last year due to COVID-19. The Winslows had previously lived in Coyote Willows Ward. The residents of the community have become Lexi’s “grandparents” and have grown to love her and her family.

The lion’s share of the raised funds will help Lexi take medical trips to Texas for intensive therapy that must be given three times a year.

The golf tournament event included a putting competition, a raffle for prizes and themed baskets, and auctions / silent auctions for donated items. Items included golf clubs, gift cards for multiple local businesses, gift cards for playing golf at multiple local golf courses, and even raiders tickets. So many things have been donated that it is not possible to list all of them. Approximately $ 6,000 in prizes and items was donated.

Smoke ‘N’ Grind provided lunch of fantastic BBQ sandwiches. The grocer also donated the Raiders tickets for the auction.
“We really have to thank everyone for their support and love,” said Joe Winslow. “All sponsors, donors and everyone. This community and this area have become family for us and we will always have our hearts full here. “

The tournament winners were Andrew and Linda Bird with 61 points. Second place went to Le Tran and H. Akiyama. They achieved a 63rd place went to D. Paige and T. Fuller with 64.

Andrew Bird was absent from the awards ceremony due to other engagements. But his wife Linda, whom he had met while playing golf, received the highest honors for both of them.
“This is a great tournament,” said Linda Bird. “We had a mostly good day with a few mistakes, but we are very honored to win this special tournament for Lexi.”

The event raised around $ 6,500 this year. The Winslows would like to thank all donors, golfers and especially the Coyote Willows Golf Course as well as the staff and residents.
