When the 91st Portage County Amateur came to an end on Sunday, a household name was at the top of the rankings.
Bud Radis has been a constant in the ranks of amateurs, winning the junior amateur and the amateur for the past 10 years and most recently in 2018 before this year’s championship.
Radis, an eminent golfer from the Aurora Greenmen and Miami University RedHawks, held Ben Lansinger of Mogadore, former Portage Trail Conference Player of the Year and now at Malone University, and Jarrod Page, former Kent State University Golfer, and Evan Ferrara of Kent, defending champion of the amateur.
The final five golfers were within five strokes of each other and included two under-par rounds.
Millard victorious at OGGF
The Ohio Girls Golf Foundation hosted the organization’s annual showcase and scholarship awards at the Avon Oaks Country Club with a familiar face at the top of the leaderboard when the competition was closed.
Brooklyn Millard of Aurora fought for victory in one fell swoop, firing an outstanding 69.3 under par on the narrow fairways of Avon Oaks.
Millard, the record-breaking Courier Best of Preps Player of the Year and Portage County Junior Amateur Champion, defeated Helena’s Sydney Leyerle in one fell swoop to claim victory.
The top 20 local golfers included Sherry Du from Hudson (75), Emily Burling from Hudson (80), Madolyn Kost from Kent (80), Sydney Leavery from Kent (80) and Maren Seaholts from Kent (83).
The event combines the results of girls from high school teams in Northeast Ohio to preview the upcoming season.
The girls from Kent Roosevelt finished fourth overall out of 15 teams and achieved a total of 358 points thanks to Maren Seaholts, Sydnie Leavery, Morgan Bauza, Ashlyn Leavery and Emma Picicco.
The team champion after combining the results was Magnificat High School, followed by Hudson.
