Troon – the world’s largest golf management company – has been hired by the State of Florida starting next month to oversee the operations of the Seminole Legacy Golf Club.

The FSU has decided not to renew its contract with ClubCorp.

The Dallas-based company has been managing the space since it reopened in March 2020 following an $ 8 million renovation of its facilities by Nicklaus Design Company.

The par-72, 7,684 yard course is owned by the FSU and is home to the Seminole men’s and women’s golf teams.

“Seminole Legacy is much more than just one of the leading university courses in the country – it’s an important part of our community and the university as a whole,” said FSU golf coach and golf director Trey Jones in a statement released by the university on Friday.

“Troon’s involvement will improve the experience for our two golf teams, our membership and our Seminole golf supporters.”

Price stays the same

The new partnership with Troon, based in Phoenix, Arizona, will not result in any reduction in membership services, events, activities or development plans, according to FSU.

The current membership structure and pricing will also remain. The course currently has 448 members and, according to the FSU, averages around 20,000 rounds per year.

The university also does not assume that roles, responsibilities or reporting structures will initially change as a result of the partnership. Former Leon High golfer and FSU graduate Jaxon Hardy is the club’s general manager.

Troon will also review ways to improve the club experience for members and staff, and make recommendations to the FSU.

The contract with Troon expires on December 31, 2023. Financial terms were not disclosed.

According to FSU, there was no termination fee associated with the ClubCorp contract.

“We are grateful for your leadership on the golf course over the past two years,” said Kyle Clark, FSU vice president of finance and administration.

The Legacy Club is located in southwest Tallahassee next to the Innovation Park. It is the first Jack Nicklaus Legacy Course in North America – Legacy Courses were designed by Nicklaus and his son Jack II.

The renovation took 18 months and only the 18th hole is left of the original course of the course.
