Ridgedale, Missouri – Big Cedar Lodge announced that Jeff Steen has been appointed Director of Agronomy to oversee the resort’s five world-class golf courses.
Steen has over 24 years of experience managing world-class golf resorts, including 13 years with the famous Pebble Beach Company. Steen holds a BS in Horticulture and Lawn Management from Olds College in Olds, Alberta.
“We are very excited to add Jeff Steen to our team at Big Cedar Lodge. Our founder’s goal, Johnny Morris, was to create one of the greatest golfing destinations in the world. With golf courses designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Tom Fazio, the golf world knows that Big Cedar has to be experienced to be believed. It will be Jeff’s job to help maintain and build our reputation for great golf in the beautiful Ozarks, ”said Debbie Bennett, president of hospitality for Bass Pro Shops.
Steen’s primary responsibilities include overseeing all of the golf course operations, managing 4 superintendents, overseeing the landscaping for the five facilities and overseeing the staff in the golf course department.
“Joining the Big Cedar team is a dream come true,” said Steen. “Not only is Johnny Morris one of the most generous conservationists of our time, he’s also one of the most resourceful and successful golfers in America today. Everyone in the golf world reacts to the same reaction when they play one of their courses – sheer amazement. I can’t wait to get started, ”added Steen.
Simultaneously with the appointment of Jeff Steen, Big Cedar also announced the promotion of Steve Johnson to Senior Golf Course Superintendent. Steve is a graduate of Mississippi State University and has directed golf courses for more than 34 years, including the last 14 years with local golf courses.
