The European Cricket Championship – ECC21 – is broadcast to a global audience and is a month-long national team tournament with representatives from England and the Netherlands.
With almost 100 games in September and October, 15 national teams will play the first edition in 2021. Competition for the European Cricket Championship crown will be intense at the picturesque Cartama Cricket Oval in Malaga, Spain.
The stunning Cartama Oval is surrounded by the backdrop of the mountains of Malaga. Due to the fabulous Mediterranean climate, cricket can be played all year round on the Costa del Sol, just 15 minutes drive from Malaga Airport and 20 minutes from Malaga city center.
“Spain’s weather is perfect for cricket all year round, and Cartama’s cricket facilities and its location make it a great destination, especially for cricket fans and holidaymakers,” said Roger Feiner, CEO of ECL AG, at Sunset Beach, its official hotel partner Club.
“The quality of the Cartama site and facilities make it an ideal location for us and we are sure this is just the beginning of a mutually beneficial long-term partnership with Sports World Spain that will bring great success.”
Once a lawn nursery supplying world-famous golf resorts across Europe with grass, the site has been transformed into an oasis with first-class multi-sports fields with high-quality facilities and on-site hospitality. This success was inspired by Sports World Spain’s English born owner David Cooper, who has lived in Cartama for 35 years.
“The European Cricket Championship is an exciting new initiative and we are really honored to host the opening tournament,” said Cooper.
“We can’t wait to welcome fans and vacationers to the Cartama Oval. The partnership with this new competition gives us the opportunity to present our site and facilities to a truly global audience.
“It has always been my dream to make Cartama the premier cricket facility in Spain and it has been an exciting journey to create such an extraordinary venue for international cricket.”
Host Spain will kick off the high-octane international ECC21 T10 action against Belgium on Monday, September 13th.
