Former President Donald Trump’s frequent visits to his New Jersey golf resort during his tenure at the White House cost taxpayers more than $ 2 million – with Trump spending a total of 99 days at the Bedminster Club while serving as Commander in Chief.
NJ.com reported Saturday that the bill to taxpayers for Trump’s frequent visits to Bedminster Golf Club totaled $ 2.4 million. Trump visited the club regularly as an escape from the White House, with the number of his visits to the New Jersey property only coming in behind his trips to his residence at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
The news site received the information through a Freedom of Information Act request.
Most of the substantial sum was used for hotel expenses for local intelligence agents, which amounted to approximately $ 1.9 million. The Secret Service spent more than $ 35,000 on rooms in Trump’s Bedminister mansion.
NJ.com’s report also noted that the $ 2.4 million figure doesn’t include the price of Air Force One, which is reportedly costing about $ 142,000 an hour of flight.

A February 2019 report by the Government Accountability Office, a congressional watchdog, said Trump’s frequent trips to his Mar-a-Lago resort cost taxpayers even more. That report showed that four trips to the Florida property at the start of Trump’s presidency totaled $ 13.6 million – or about $ 3.4 million per person.
Trump’s frequent trips to his golf resorts attracted considerable scrutiny and criticism, particularly as the former president frequently criticized his predecessor, former President Barack Obama, for playing golf during his tenure. During his 2016 campaign, Trump claimed he would not have time to play golf if he won the presidency.
“I’ll work for you, I won’t have time to play golf,” he told his fans.
According to the Trump Golf Count website, the former president actually visited golf courses nearly 300 times in his four years in office. It has been confirmed that Trump played golf 150 times during his tenure in the White House, while Obama played 127 times in his first four years in office.
Last July, Trump defended his game of golf, falsely claiming he played less than Obama.
“I know many in business and politics who train endlessly, sometimes to the point of exhaustion. It’s their number one passion in life, but no one complains round of golf. Obama played more and more rounds, no problem, “tweeted the former president at the time.
Newsweek reached out to Trump’s press office for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
