The US Open 2021 is on … finally.

After a long fog delay, the third major of the PGA Tour season started on Thursday in Torrey Pines in San Diego. More than $ 12 million in winnings are at stake for the 156-player field.

The two big winners so far this season: Phil Mickelson at last month’s PGA Championship, Hideki Matsuyama at the Masters in April.

The last time the US Open was held at Torrey Pines in 2008, Tiger Woods defeated Rocco Mediate in a playoff for victory. Woods won’t play this week (not even Mediate, for the curious.)
