In the latest edition of Stan Smith Golf, Adidas released a limited-edition colorway of the classic tennis-inspired silhouette to honor the ZOZO championship and their return to Japan. The design of the shoe is based on the philosophy of the Japanese fashion retailer “Be unique. Be the same ”, with these words also on the heel of the shoe.
TIED TOGETHER: The best men’s golf shoes 2021 and the best women’s golf shoes 2021
According to adidas, the all-black upper material stands for equality, while the lively, multi-colored outsole stands for our individual idiosyncrasies. The combination of completely black tongue, upper material, midsole and laces is a rarity among golf shoes, but creates a uniquely slim look. This style will also make for some fun photo opportunities on the course: each follow-through features a red, yellow, blue, and black spikeless bottom that adds a pop of color to any golf outfit.
The look of the limited edition shoe is paired with functionality and comfort. It is both waterproof and with additional midsole cushioning, which optimizes the classic Stan Smith design for golf. Continuing the Adidas mission to “end plastic waste”, the upper of the model is made from recycled materials.
The shoe not only underscores the corporate perspective of the tournament’s name sponsor, but also celebrates the championship’s return to Japan. Last year the event was temporarily relocated to the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. However, the tournament returns to its host country next week. A 78-man field competes at the Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club in Chiba, Japan, which includes the hometown star and reigning Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama.
