Press release from the Maritime Aquarium:
June 22, 2021
Nine Fairfield men – in golf shoes – competed to support the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk on May 24th when more than $ 185,000 was raised during the 10th Annual Golf Classic at the Wee Burn Country Club in Darien.
Along with 87 other golfers, Michael Diamond of Fairfield, Jeff Dunne, John Gover, Mark Keeney, Pat McAuliffe, Jason Meersman, Josh Olson, Scott Raasch and Fred Yanni took part in the fundraiser.
“This event is always a fun and memorable outing, but even more so this year as it was the first major fundraising event the aquarium had since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out last year and of course since the logs were relaxed this spring . “Said Danielle Tranzillo, aquarium development manager. “We would like to thank the 96 golfers who have contributed so much and also the Wee Burn Country Club for welcoming us back to their beautiful course and facilities.”
The event included a delicious lunch to start the day, followed by 18-hole golf, animal encounters, live music from members of the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, and a relaxing sunset dinner.
The funds raised by the Golf Classic support the aquarium’s living exhibits, marine science and environmental education.
Fairfield County Bank was the presenting sponsor, along with co-presenting sponsors New Canaan Funding and Spinnaker Real Estate Partners LLC.
