There was a participation of nearly 50 teams for the Headfort Golf Club’s annual invitation tournament on Friday, sponsored by Sheridan Insurances.

The main prize was an overnight stay, a dinner and a fourball with Slieve Russell and the Headfort Quartet of Alf Martyn, Liam Hyland, John Martin and Fintan Hogan just won the laurels from the team of Aidan Foley (Headfort), Susan Morrison (Lahinch), Niall Morrison (Lahinch) and Eddie Mitchell (Headfort).

Headfort Lady Captain Mary McQuillan won the category award for the next pin.

The format was a champagne scramble that gave golfers the opportunity to enjoy golf with a fun factor, while men’s, women’s and mixed teams took on the challenges of the pristine fairways and greens at Headfort.

“Headfort Golf Club would like to thank Sheridan Insurances, generous sponsors of the annual event, and we are grateful to our other two main sponsors, Rooney’s Homevalue and O’Brien’s SuperValu, Kells, and a large number of local businesses that keep going for the event generously, “commented competition coordinator Paul Gilbert.

“The emergence of the Covid epidemic and the subsequent suspension of sport did not allow the invitation to take place in 2020.

“However, golf is fortunate enough to be one of the sports that has continued thanks to its outdoor nature and the ability of participants to adhere to the rules of social distancing.

“Aside from competitions like this, we all look forward to welcoming the Irish Amateur Close Championship to Headfort from August 12-17, 2022, which will be a great opportunity for the club,” concluded the Headfort Golf Club official.
