Scottish Leading Player Receives New Jock MacVicar Trophy The Government of Scotland agrees to a new five-year commitment to the Women’s Scottish Open Trust Golf, VisitScotland and Dumbarnie Links are hosting a personal media day for the 2021 Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open
American Solheim Cup star and major winner Stacy Lewis has confirmed she will return to Scotland to defend her title at the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open in 2021 when British media left in Dumbarnie for their first personal media day since Setting of COVID-19 gathered.
Lewis, who secured her first play-off victory with a birdie last year, commented: “I love links golf in Scotland and coming back as the defending champions makes it very special. Last year’s tournament was one of our first events after COVID-19 shut down, so I was very fortunate to have the chance to compete in Scotland, let alone win my first title since my daughter Chesnee was born! Cant wait to check out Dumbarnie Links in person – everything I’ve seen and heard makes it sound pretty special. I always seem to play some of my best golf courses on the Links courses in Scotland so I look forward to seeing all of them at the Trust Links Women’s Scottish Open in August 2021. “
Together with the new title sponsor Trust Golf and long-time tournament partner VisitScotland, the media were able to play the renowned Dumbarnie Links Course, Scotland’s newest professional tournament venue, and for the first time host this prestigious tournament, jointly sanctioned by the LPGA and the Ladies European Tour, from 12.- 08/15/2021.
Unfortunately, the media present lacks the legendary golf journalist Jock MacVicar, an ardent supporter of the event, who passed away at the age of 83 at the beginning of the year and whose memory is now honored with the annual award of the newly created Jock MacVicar Leading Scot Trophy to the best Home players at the award ceremony. Trust Golf will also award the Jock MacVicar Leading Scot Trophy winner a week-long training block at its state-of-the-art, science-based golf training facility in Bangkok, Thailand.
Trust Golf is a Thailand-based technology company run by Dr. Prin Singhanart, working with the next generation of Thai golf professionals educational program.
Dr. Prin commented, “We are excited to partner with the Scottish Government, IMG, LPGA and the Ladies European Tour for the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open to bring our company’s ethos to the world. Today at Dumbarnie Links, such a beautiful world class venue, to be in the company of our new partners and to be able to share our plans with the Scottish media is a very exciting moment for Trust Golf and feels like a very important step for us Company, because we are growing internationally. I believe this will be a wonderfully beneficial partnership for all of us and we can’t wait for tournament week in August. “
The Scottish Government and VisitScotland have long been involved in women’s golf, having sponsored the Women’s Scottish Open from 2007 and being a partner of the AIG Women’s Open since 2011. The country also hosted the hugely successful Solheim Cup at Gleneagles in 2019, setting a record for participation in a women’s golf event. The latest five-year funding agreement calls for the Scottish Government and VisitScotland to support the Women’s Scottish Open with investments of up to £ 6 million through 2025.
Paul Bush Director of Events at VisitScotland commented, “It was a pleasure to be here today with our new tournament sponsor Trust Golf and, after such a long time, to have the opportunity to interact with our valued media colleagues in person rather than on screen Time. We are very proud of our collaboration with the Women’s Scottish Open and the role we have played in making it one of the most important on the women’s golf calendar. Trust Golf has a lot to offer Scottish golf and hopefully today will mark the beginning of a wonderful journey together as we work together to make sure this special tournament just keeps getting stronger. We look forward to welcoming our defending champion Stacy as well as another world-class field in the spectacular Dumbarnie Links in August. “
Dumbarnie Links, the new venue for the tournament, is one of the newest golf courses in Scotland, but it has received the most acclaim as it immediately made an impact on golf enthusiasts around the world when it opened in May 2020 and has already established itself as a must-see golf experience on the east coast. It is on land a mile and a half from the sea with panoramic views over the Firth of Forth, conveniently between St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Crail which are right on the coast.
