Gwynedd youth have participated in the High Sheriff of Gwynedd’s Charity Golf Contest.
The event at Porthmadog Golf Club was organized to raise funds for PACT (North Wales Police and Community Trust) and the Duke of Edinburgh Award, selected by this year’s High Sheriff Gwyn Peredur Owen.
Ieuenctid Gwynedd’s golf team – Tomos Dobson, Jamie Williams and Siôn Endaf Parry – was one of 14 participants. The team was sponsored by Cllr Simon Glyn, chairman of the Gwynedd Council. Youth worker Andrew Owen watched the score closely.
There were also volunteers from Ysgol Eifionydd, led by youth worker Nia Rees.
After a close competition, Ieuenctid Gwynedd emerged victorious. The youngsters were rewarded for their efforts with golf coaching with Mark Pilkington, a professional golfer from the club.
Alderman Simon Glyn, chairman of Gwynedd Council, said: “This is excellent news and deserves great praise.
“I am so proud of your success and will personally congratulate you in due course.”
Nia Rees, youth worker, said: “I am very happy that the young people from Ysgol Eifionydd enjoyed volunteering during the competition. The highlight for them was definitely the golf training session with Mark Pilkington.
“I think the experience created some budding golfers for the future!”
Andrew Owen, youth worker, added: “I want to thank Tomos, Jamie and Siôn for participating in the competition and congratulations on winning the competition!
“I would also like to personally thank Alderman Simon Glyn for sponsoring us and giving the young people this wonderful opportunity to participate in the competition – a very good choice in the end to sponsor the winners!”
Councilor Dilwyn Morgan, Cabinet Member for Gwynedd Council for Children and Youth, said, “It is great to hear about the success of this charity golf competition at Porthmadog Golf Club and that the young people of the area played an important role on the day. I would like to thank the young volunteers for their hard work and I’m happy to hear that they enjoyed the golf coaching afterwards.
“Congratulations also to the Ieuenctid Gwynedd team on winning the golf competition, which is a great achievement!

The benefit golf competition raised over £ 4,000 for good causes.
