Si Woo Kim holds the trophy after winning the American Express at PGA West in La Quinta on January 24, 2021.
Fans will be returning to The American Express golf tournament in La Quinta in January, but only with proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or proof of a recent negative COVID test.
The PGA Tour event announced the logs on Monday as ticket sales for the Pro Golf event began January 19-23. The tournament was played with no gallery and no Pro-Am game last January due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament management plans to have fans in all three seats this year and to return to Pro-Am play during the first three days of the professional tournament.
American Express officials also said they plan to return concerts to the event on Jan. 21 and 22 at the driving range at PGA West. Acts for these two concerts will be announced at a later date, the tournament announced. In 2020 the acts were rock legend Stevie Nicks and country star Luke Bryan. There were no concerts in 2021.
To enter the tournament, fans must provide evidence of a full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of entering any of the three courses, the Stadium Course and the Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West or La Quinta Country Club. The vaccination protocol for the event comes just weeks after the rescheduled BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament in Indian Wells required proof of vaccination to enter the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. The last two years of the LPGA (formerly ANA Inspiration) Chevron Championship were played without a gallery.
