VENICE, Florida – Duke duo Virginia Elena Carta and Gina Kim placed in the top 45 of Stage II of Sunday’s LPGA Qualifier to advance to the LPGA Q-Series while continuing to pursue an LPGA Tour card for the 2022 season.
Kim, a senior from Durham, NC, ranked 19th, while Carta, a 2019 Duke graduate from Udine, Italy, ranked 37th. Jaravee Boonchant, a Blue Devil 2021 graduate, ranks 95th but receives Symetra Tour status for 2022.
The LPGA Q-Series takes place November 29 through December 12 on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama.
With rounds of 69, 73, 68 and 72, Kim carded a 6-under, 282. She completed the final round with birdies on # 11 and # 16 and finished 2 under over her final eight holes. Kim netted 17 birdies over the 72 holes. She was one of 11 amateurs to land in the top 47.
Carta racked up scores of 69, 72, 70 and 74 for a 3-under, 285. She only had six bogeys in her first three rounds and ended the week with 14 birdies.
Pauline Roussin-Bouchard scored a 7-under, 65 in the final round to honor medalists with a 19-under, 269.
Kim will meet with her teammates in Atlanta, Georgia for the East Lake Cup, which will be held October 25-27 at the East Lake Golf Club. The Blue Devils will tee off on Monday in the stroke play portion of the event from 10:55 a.m., along with Ole Miss, Oklahoma State and Arizona. The Golf Channel will be broadcast on Monday from 2.30 p.m.
