From Symetra Tour Media Relations
Two weeks ago, Lilia Vu took her third win in 2021, bringing her season profit to $ 140,607.
With only five events remaining on the Symetra Tour this year and a ton of numbers, it’s official: Vu has secured a spot in the top 10 on the Symetra Tour Money List.
There is no way it can fall out. The native Californian will join the LPGA Tour in 2022.
“We did it. I don’t know what to say. I’ve come a long way in the last two years. From almost quitting golf to being here,” Vu said. “I honestly don’t know how it happened so quickly. ”
After her second win at the Twin Bridges Championship, Vu shared a story that resonated with anyone who has struggled in their careers in or outside of golf.
When she was a rookie on the LPGA tour in 2019, full of confidence and promise, she made a year-round cut, the LOTTE Championship, where the check for $ 3,830 barely covered the cost of her week in Hawaii.
Dejected and beaten by a game that can be relentless, Vu thought of putting the clubs down and going to law school, a dream most parents would welcome.
But Vu’s mother, Yvonne Du, was not like most parents. In the friendliest possible way, Yvonne said to Lilia: “No honey, you are good enough. You have to pull yourself out of there. “
There’s nothing more motivating than when your mom tells you to cowboy up and fight your way out of anger.
“My mom was there for me the whole time, even when I thought about quitting golf,” said Vu. “She encouraged me to do my best and always thought I belong on the LPGA tour. I’m looking forward to next year.”
Vu scored her first win at the Garden City Charity Classic and hasn’t missed a cut all year long. Her last five starts were: T4, T3, Win, T2, Win. Last week she put on an LPGA hoodie and was photographed celebrating with a bottle of champagne.
But although she has already banned her place on the LPGA for next year, Vu is not resting. She is in the Circling Raven Championship hoping to keep up the momentum for as long as it lasts. As an added bonus, she loves the golf course.
“I think it’s really pretty and it actually exceeded my expectations,” said Vu. “The Front Nine is definitely different from the Back Nine. It’s much more open, blending style, while the front is tree-lined. But I’ve really liked the last nine so far. “
Vu will tee off from hole 10 at 12:38 pm today. In her threesome is Sophie Hausmann, the former University of Idaho star.
ENEROTH COMPETITION ALSO FOR THE SPONSOR EXCEPTION
Each tournament has the opportunity to invite participants who otherwise might not have had a chance to experience a Symetra Tour event.
At the Circling Raven Championship, 17-year-old Allyn Song Stephens from Houston, who won the Notah Begay III Championship, went to former Mead High standout Amy Eneroth.
After taking part in the Cactus and Symetra tours years ago, Eneroth will return to competitive golf and represent the Kalispel Golf and Country Club (formerly Spokane Country Club).
“I grew so much from high school to college and from college to professional gaming,” Eneroth really said of the world (when I was on the Symetra tour), even though we only traveled within the US. I’ve met girls from all over the world. I think that was the coolest part. I was a bit introverted in high school, and still am, but with every step I’ve grown and got out of my shell and become more sociable with people I don’t know. I think I’ve become more of a person and learned to go with the flow without panicking, and the Symetra Tour was a big part of that. ”
The Washington State alumna will tee off # 10 today at 8:33 a.m.
