Holden's Fran Quinn shot a birdie on four of his last six holes on Saturday to improve the US Senior Open leaderboard.

Leave it to a rain delay to trigger a Fran Quinn rally

After a three-hour delay due to severe thunderstorms in Omaha, Nebraska on Saturday, the Holden resident finished his third round of the US Senior Open with a swing, finished a 1-under 69 and is level with ninth in the finals on Sunday.

Quinn was tied in 28th place on 3 over, nine strokes behind the lead, at 2 overs for the day through 11 holes when play was suspended. After hitting his first hole after the delay, he recorded birdies on four of his last six holes to draw a straight par 210 for the tournament.

During the round, Quinn was eight shots behind tournament leader Jim Furyk (66-202), but only four shots behind Stephen Ames in second place.

Quinn ranked 14th at this 2019 event on the University of Notre Dame Indiana campus.

Shrewsbury's Brittany Altomare shot under 70 for the third consecutive year in the Ohio LPGA Classic marathon on Saturday.

Another beautiful day for Altomare Brittany

For the second straight day, Brittany Altomare of Shrewsbury shot 3 under 68 on Saturday and is 8 under 205 in the finals of the LPGA Classic marathon in Sylvania, Ohio. She shot better than 70 on each lap.

Altomare is tied in 21st place, 11 strokes behind the lead, but only five strokes in third place.

After the 64th shooting, Nasa Hataoka is 19-under 194 ahead, six strokes ahead of Mina Harigae and Elizabeth Szokol after three rounds.
