PETALING JAYA: Malaysian golfer Alyaa Abdulghany passed the opening test to receive a US LPGA tour card for the next season.
The 22-year-old battled her way to a final of two over 74 at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. On Sunday, and it was enough for her to advance to LPGA Qualifying School second level in two months.
Alyaa finished the first phase and finished 62nd in the 336-player field of a total of two over 288. This makes Alyaa one of the 95 best players to play next from October 21st to 24th at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice , Florida.
The second leg will be even more difficult as the field will include some of the established players who lost their card on the LPGA Tour and Second-tier Symetra Tour this season.
Alyaa was delighted to have completed her first mission.
“I am happy to finish the first level of Q-School. I prepared for hot and windy conditions with grainy greens so I’m happy to get the job done, ”said Alyaa, last year’s US amateur semi-finalist.
“When I go into the second phase, I know the field will be more competitive, so I have to take it one day at a time.”
Malaysian compatriot Loy Hee Ying failed to join Alyaa after a weak finals.
The 24-year-old was only able to raise a 76 for 293 in total and slipped from the 80th place with the same number of points to the 106th place with the same number of points, missing the cut by two strokes.
Hee Ying also failed her previous application two years ago.
The LPGA Tour Q-School consists of a total of three stages.
The crucial final phase, known as the Q-Series, via a grueling 144-hole competition, will take place at Magnolia Grove (December 2-5) and Highland Oaks Golf Club (December 9-12) in Alabama. carried out.
LPGA Tour tickets are awarded to the top 45 and ties in the Q series.
