by | Oct 24, 2021 | PGA

The PGA TOUR leads to the third Butterfield Bermuda Championship in Bermuda. Brian Gay returns to defend his title – his first PGA TOUR triumph since 2013 – while a mix of great champions, TOUR winners and rising stars complete the field.

FIELD NOTES: Masters winners Patrick Reed and Danny Willett will hit Bermuda … Matt Fitzpatrick – fresh from his second Ryder Cup start and recent European Tour win in Valderrama – is in the field … Ryder Cup assistant captains Graeme McDowell and Luke Donald goes to Bermuda. McDowell competed here in the Grand Slam of Golf, an event where the four big winners of the year competed against each other, as did Lucas Glover and Jason Dufner, who are also in the field this week … Many Korn Ferry Tour alumni are in the field Feld in search of a success in the FedExCup classification at the beginning of the season. Celebrities include Stephan Jaeger and Joseph Bramlett, who were the leading points winners from the Regular Season finals and the Korn Ferry Tour, respectively, and Mito Pereira, who was promoted with three wins in 2021 … The sponsor exceptions include the teammates of the Walker Cup 2021 , Austin Eckroat and John Pak, who has now turned pro, and Ludvig Aberg of Texas Tech, the third-placed amateur in the world. Pak was the No. 1 player on this year’s PGA TOUR University rankings and was named College Golf Player of the Year and won the Haskins, Hogan and Nicklaus Awards. Eckroat took third place in the PGA TOUR U rankings and defended the Korn Ferry Tour status, which he had earned in three starts in two top 15. Due to being in the top 5 of PGA TOUR University, they are exempt from the final leg of the Korn Ferry Tour Q-School, which will take place November 4-7 in Savannah, Georgia.

FEDEXCUP: The winner will receive 500 FedExCup points.

COURSE: Port Royal GC in Southampton, Bermuda, par 71, 6,828 yards. The Port Royal, designed by Robert Trent Jones, is the longest square on the island. However, if it is less than 7,000 yards, it will require close shots and straight driving. The course that hosted the Grand Slam of Golf from 2009-2014 underwent a $ 14.5 million renovation a little over a decade ago in preparation for the TOUR’s arrival.
