The Kiwi opened his round with a birdie on the fifth hole, part of a flawless front nine.

Fox got off to an even better start with his back nine and hit an eagle on the 11th par 5 hole just to squander his advantage.

After successive bogeys on the 12th and 13th holes, a birdie on the 14th caused Fox to begin making up lost ground, only to drop another stroke on the 15th.

With a final birdie on the 17th, Fox completed his back nine at one-under and two-under for the round to solidify the competition.

Fox is currently in a four-way battle for second place in the rankings, level with the English couple Matt Fitzpatrick and Laurie Canter and the Swede Sebastian Soderberg.
