It was a first win for Lucas Higgins and another Pro-Am class on Tim Hart’s belt as the couple shared the top spot in the Bielby BMD Gympie Pro-Am at Gympie Golf Club on Sunday.
After a dominant run through North Queensland and the Onsite Rental Group’s Mining Town Series, Hart picked up where he left off, firing seven birdies and two bogeys in his 5-under 65 to join Higgins at the top.
With two holes tied for the lead, Hart bogeyed the difficult par-3 17th before seeing his usual heroics on the final hole as he made a birdie to tie Higgins.
Higgins is a two-time Gary Player Classic winner and a member of the Golf NSW High Performance Team. In April, Higgins received his PGA Tour of Australasia card at Moonah Links, turning promising results in the Mining Towns Series into a groundbreaking professional victory.
“It feels good to get a win so early in my career,” said the 22-year-old from Murwillumbah Golf Club on the north coast of New South Wales.
“I played through the Mining Towns Series well and knew that I wasn’t far from winning.”
Higgins started the day on the 10th hole and started slowly with an early bogey on the 11th hole, but hit straight back with birdies on 12 and 13.
There was another dropped shot on Par-4 14, but a birdie on 18 made him take the turn at 1-under.
Successive birdies on the fourth and fifth holes and an eagle two on his penultimate hole, the 307 meter long par 4 eight, gave Higgins a total of 5 under, which only one player could achieve.
Hart has now extended his lead in the adidas Pro-Am Series Order of Merit with the next event, the Pacific GWM-Haval Tin Can Bay Pro-Am on Tuesday, July 6th.
