On Thursday there was a small friendly competition with some boastful rights for local golf professionals.

37 of them competed against each other in the first Desert Chapter PGA Summer Series. This edition was hosted by the Lakes Country Club in Palm Desert.

The event was sponsored by TaylorMade, with a fairly large budget, according to The Lakes chief golfer John McCarthy.

“This tournament is great! We’re all trying to be as low as possible and may the best man win,” said McCarthy.

“It’s great! It’s a competition between all of our golf pros and we’re all good friends, but it’s nice to win some too, so … good competition,” said Josh Garber, tournament chairman of the PGA Desert Chapter.

Alex Witt from the Sunrise Country Club in Rancho Mirage won with 68 points.

There was a five-way tie for the second at -3.

This includes Andrew Kramer from Los Serranos Golf Club, who in particular had a hole-in-one from 170 meters away.

The second edition of the Summer Series is scheduled for July 5th.
