A junior golfer from Grant County finished second in his age group in the drive, chip and putt competition at Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond on June 28 and qualified for next month’s subregional competition at Meriwether National Golf Club in Hillsboro.
Sawyer Quinton, 13, of Canyon City, attended the Professional Golf Association-sponsored event in the 14-15 category, depending on how old he will be during the final in April 2022.
Sponsored by the Professional Golfers Association, the United States Golfers Association and the Masters Tournament, the event evaluates players in the three disciplines of Putts, Chips and Drives. Each player receives three putts, three drives and three chips and scores points based on how close they get to the hole. The maximum number of points goes to every stroke that makes it into the hole.
The top two in their respective age groups at the Hillsboro subregional competition will move on to the regional qualifying event at Pebble Beach Golf Links Regional in Pebble Beach, California.
From there, the national finals before the Masters tournament in 2022 will be held at the Augusta National Golf Club.
