The Saudi Arabia-backed Super Golf League, also known as the PGA Tour’s rival league, is making headlines again. As they have made some important announcements lately. In the meantime, according to Golfweek, a private meeting with some golf media members is to take place. And it also said they won’t be allowed to spread the word until early next week.

The PGA Tour’s rival league will reveal the investors, locations, and other details

Yesterday they announced Greg Norman as the commissioner for their event. And today there is a new update to his cash-rich series. Corresponding Ryan Ballengee, the Saudi Arabia-backed league starts as a 10-event series on the Asian Tour. In addition, the venues are Asia, Europe and of course the Middle East.

In addition, they have even announced that Greg Norman will become CEO of LIV Golf Investments affiliated with this series. Meanwhile, the majority shareholder of LIV Golf Investments is the Public Investment Fund, which also invests an arm of the Saudi Arabian government.

The Saudi Arabia-supported Super Golf League apparently starts as a 10-event series on the Asian Tour. Greg Norman has been named CEO of LIV Golf Investments, which is affiliated with the series. Events take place in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. No specific player commitments have been announced yet.

Ultimately, the Asian Tour is likely the vehicle to start the larger route as it could add world ranking points to the events without the need for a new tour to be approved by the OWGR, which is likely, at best, for the league on its own at best.

As a launch vehicle, they are also aiming for the Asian Tour, as they do not need any approval for the world ranking points. Because starting a new tour would force them to obtain approval from OWGR. And that wouldn’t be such a great idea, at least at the beginning of the league.

In the meantime, there has been no announcement of specific player commitments. And PGA Tour players will likely still need tour approval as this is still a non-PGA Tour event. So it will be interesting to see how things play out over the next few days as this was just a warm-up announcement. In addition, there are a few things that will be announced in the coming weeks.
