Dar es Salam. Tanzania will host the Professional Golfers’ Association tournament known as the PGA European Tour for the first time in April next year.
It will be history for the country to host a major golf tournament attended only by professional golfers in the world. Tanzania is the fifth country in Africa to host the competition. According to a source, golfers will compete on 36 holes every day, with prominent golfers from Europe, America and Africa (Sunshine Tour) gathering in the country to compete for the first time.
The event has already been held in Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria and South Africa. According to the information The Citizen has received, the event will take place at Kili Golf Course, a 1,040-acre estate between Kilimanjaro and Meru. More than 300 foreigners are expected to take part in the competition.
The report says the event will run for four days starting April 7th next year, with professional golfers competing against each other in the 144-hole stroke game. “It has been history for the country since its independence in 1961. Tanzania has yet to host such a major golf event as a lot of work has been done to secure this opportunity. Compliments to the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) for their efforts, ”the source said.
The source also said that International Sports Management (ISM) UK Event Director Andrew McNabola will arrive in the country on November 22nd this year, ahead of the tournament in the country, which normally takes six months to prepare.
TGU chairman Chriss Martin confirmed the report, saying that they will issue a statement upon conclusion of various related matters.
