ATLANTA – During the tournament’s annual media day on Monday at East Lake Golf Club, the TOUR Championship made important announcements about two major tournament initiatives, as the PGA TOUR season will be on Labor Day weekend Sept 1-5.
As the tournament welcomes fans back to the East Lake Golf Club, the TOUR Championship announced the resumption of its youth ticket program, which allows two (2) teenagers 15 years and younger per adult with free entry to the PGA TOURS to receive The best players fight for the FedExCup.
“This program not only enables many of our young viewers to experience the excitement of the TOUR Championship and experience its golf heroes up close, but it also has a positive impact on parents as the whole family can attend the tournament on a budget-friendly basis,” said Allison Fillmore , Executive Director of the TOUR Championship.
No advance registration is required for the youth ticket program. Children can simply arrive and be admitted with their parents or legal guardians with a ticket.
On Thursday morning, a cherished tradition of the TOUR championship will be doubled in importance. Each year, a Metro Atlanta First Tee® member is selected to take the HOPE tee shot prior to the opening round of the TOUR Championship. The tee is a symbol and reminder of the hope that continues to grow throughout the East Lake community as a result of the East Lake Foundation’s revitalization efforts.
For the first time, the HOPE Tee Shot honors two young participants – a boy and a girl – in a special ceremony on the first tee a few minutes before the first tee of the TOUR championship.
At the end of the Media Day, eight-time PGA TOUR winner Stewart Cink surprised this year’s HOPE Tee Shot winners – Tatum Thompson and Marcus Leonard – with exciting news.
Tatum is a 15-year-old aspiring junior at Walton High School who loves fishing and calls her father the most influential person in her life. Her favorite player on the PGA TOUR is 2017 FedExCup Champion Justin Thomas and enjoys seeing Lexi Thompson on the LPGA Tour.
Marcus is a 16 year old aspiring junior at Drew Charter School across from East Lake Golf Club. Outside of golf, Marcus likes to volunteer in his community. Marcus lists his mother as the most influential person in his life because he sees how hard she works and it motivates him to speak hard too. On the golf course, Marcus is a huge fan of two-time FedExCup champion Rory McIlroy.
“It is always a special moment every Thursday morning as I am reminded that the future of our church is in very good hands. As the First Tee of Metro Atlanta chapter continues to grow, we felt it was necessary to offer this unique and important opportunity to both a boy and a girl, ”said Fillmore. “The HOPE Tee Shot is an opportunity to look back at how far we’ve come in East Lake, while looking at all of the positive changes that lie ahead. I personally look forward to cheering on both Tatum and Marcus as they will be honored this Thursday morning. “
